Post to Signals

Your posts are written in Signals, not on your profile. Tap the prompt at the top of the stream, or the compose button in the bottom bar on a phone once the prompt has scrolled away.

Choose who sees it

• Your Orbit: the people you're connected to. The usual choice.
• Orbit, except some: everyone in your Orbit minus the Clusters or people you pick. They aren't told, and the post looks like any other to everyone else.
• Only some: just the Clusters or people you pick. Nobody is told they were picked.
• Your network: your Orbit plus the people they're connected to.
• Only you: a note to yourself, and nobody else sees it.

The composer opens on your default audience, which is your Orbit until you change it. Pick something else and a Make this my default link appears under the choices, so the next post starts there too. Any single post can still go to a different audience.

If your default names a person who's left your Orbit, the composer says so and asks you to check who the post reaches before you send. Deleting a Cluster doesn't change who your posts reach: the people in it are kept in your default and on those posts by name. Your current default is listed in Privacy settings as Who sees your posts by default.

You can attach a poll instead of (or alongside) the text: up to ten options, one choice or several, anonymous if the question calls for it, and it can close on its own. People vote right on the card, and you see who picked what by name (or by handle, outside your Orbit).

Reactions and replies

Anyone who can see a post can react with one of ten emoji, or open the thread and reply. A collapsed thread shows its last few comments right on the card, so you can tell what people said without opening anything, and the reply field and the Reply on each line under them open the thread ready to type.

Replies live under the post, so a conversation stays with the thing it's about rather than turning into a separate group chat. They go one level deep, they can carry a photo or a GIF, and you can edit yours. See Comments and reactions.

Your own post

From a post's menu you can mute its thread (you stop hearing about new replies, everyone else carries on) or turn comments off entirely, which leaves what's already there readable and stops anything new landing.
