Start a message or group thread

A direct message

Direct messages are between you and one person in your Orbit. In Talk, tap New conversation, pick them, and tap Message with their name. You can also message them from their profile, or pick up the thread in your inbox. See Who can message you for why it's Orbit only.

A group thread

1. 1In Talk, tap New conversation.
2. 2Pick two or more people from your Orbit, and tap Next. (To make a named thread with just one person, pick them and tap Or start a named group with their name.)
3. 3The group is named after the people in it. Keep that or type your own, and add a photo if you want one.
4. 4Choose who can manage it: just you, or any member. Tap Create group, and the thread is ready.

A group thread stands on its own, no event or plan required. To manage one later, open it and tap the group's name: managers can rename it, change the photo, and add or remove people, and anyone can leave. Anyone in the group you're not connected to has an add-to-Orbit button beside their name there.
