Who can message you

Strangers can't slide into your messages. Direct messages on Joinue require a connection: you message the people in your Orbit, and they message you.

Event chats and Space conversations are scoped to their members, so you may chat alongside people you're not connected to, but only inside something you both joined.

One exception: if you ask to join a Space, its organizers (the owner, admins and moderators) can message you directly while your request is waiting, even though you aren't connected. They write first, and you can reply once they have. When your request is approved or declined, the chat stays but becomes read-only. Blocking either way stops it. See Space privacy.

When a direct message goes read-only

A direct message stays readable when you and the other person stop being connected, but nobody can send in it until you connect again. In place of the message box it says you aren't connected in Orbit, with Add to Orbit and View profile right there. If one of you has already asked, it says so: Accept their request to keep chatting, or wait for them to accept yours.

If you blocked them, it says You blocked them instead, with Unblock to message. Unblocking doesn't reconnect you, so the thread then asks you to connect. If they blocked you, the thread just reads as not connected, the same as their profile does.

If someone crosses a line anywhere, you can block or report them.
