Secret roles and assignments
Hand each guest a private role: a murder-mystery character, a Secret Santa match, a table.
Some events run on secrets. Assignments give each guest their own private role, revealed only to them: who they're the Secret Santa for, their murder-mystery character, the table they're seated at.
- 1When you create the event, tap Start from a format and pick one (like Secret Santa or Murder Mystery) under What kind of night? Forgot? You can still change the format from Edit event until a guest replies or there are cards. After that it's locked, and the event says why.
- 2On your event's Prep tab, open Assignments. Assign a role to each guest, or let the format match everyone up for you.
- 3Release the assignments when you're ready. Until you do, nobody sees a thing.
The Assignments board only appears on an event with a format, and only to the hosts.
Once released, each guest sees only their own role, on the event's Details tab. No one sees anyone else's. Your board counts how many have opened theirs (3/8 opened) and marks each guest Opened or Not opened. That includes guests who answered by link: they read their card on the invite link, and the row says Via link under it.
Nudge whoever hasn't looked
Some people never open their card. While anyone hasn't, the board shows a button like Nudge 3 who haven't looked. One tap reminds just those guests: in the app, or by email for a link guest who left one. The reminder only says their card is waiting. It never says who drew whom. You can nudge once every 12 hours, and your own card is never counted.
Changing a card after release
Need to fix a card after you've released them, or give a late guest theirs? Save it and that guest is told their card is ready, in the app or by email if they answered by link and left one. The email links to the invite, never to what the card says. The card shows Not opened again on your board until they look.
Secret Santa draws the guests who said Going. Under More options you can add a budget, include Maybes, leave people out, and keep pairs (like couples) from drawing each other. If someone joins or drops out after the draw, only the cards that have to change are changed, and only those guests are told. Guests who RSVP'd by link without an account see their match on the invite link, on the device they answered from.
Guests who said Going or Maybe and have an account can fill in Your wishlist on the event's Details tab: sizes, a favorite snack, a book they've been meaning to read. Whoever draws them sees it on their card as Their wishlist, and it stays up to date if they change it, before or after the draw. Link guests need an account to write one.
White Elephant shuffles a pick order. Once you release it, everyone in the swap sees the whole order, plus any house rules you set, like how many times a gift can be stolen. Guests who answered by link see the same order and rules on the invite link. Tap Print on the gift swap card to print just the order and the rules on a clean page, ready to tape up by the gifts.
