Start from a format
Hosting a potluck, a Secret Santa, a murder mystery or a gift swap? Pick the format and the event comes set up for it.
Most events are just a time, a place and a guest list. Some nights need more: who's bringing what, who drew whom, which character you're playing. A format sets the event up for that kind of night, so you don't build it by hand.
- 1In the event composer, tap Start from a format.
- 2Pick one under What kind of night?, or search for it. Searching "friendsgiving" or "thanksgiving" finds Potluck, and "yankee swap" finds White Elephant.
- 3Fill in the rest of the event as usual and create it.
What each one does
- Potluck: starts with a bring list, so guests add the dish they're bringing or claim one you listed. The one for Friendsgiving.
- Secret Santa: draws names for you, and nobody gets themselves. Guests can leave a wishlist for whoever draws them.
- White Elephant: shuffles a fair pick order for the gift swap, with house rules everyone can see.
- Murder Mystery: hands each guest a secret character and backstory.
- Dinner Party: tells each guest their table, seat and meal.
- Book Club / Tasting: sets each person's prep, like chapters to read or a bottle to bring.
- Shower & Party Games: drops a private prompt or role on each guest for the games.
- Retreat / Offsite: assigns groups, rooms and icebreaker partners.
- Secret Briefings: a private briefing for each guest, written your way.
- Scavenger Hunt: splits guests into teams and hands each team its clues.
- Memorial and Fundraiser: a gentler event with a memory wall, or a donation link and a goal. See Create an event.
The private cards (the draw, the characters, the seats) are run from Assignments on the Prep tab. See Secret roles and assignments.
Picked the wrong one?
Open Edit event and change it. You can switch formats until a guest replies or there are cards, a cast or wish lists. After that it's locked, and the format picker says why, because changing it then would scramble what people already have.
